Each wine region in the world has a particular wine that identifies it, for example the Malbec from Argentina. Here in Baja California there is a grape that sets us apart from the rest of the world, the Nebbiolo grape.
Nebbiolo is a grape that comes from the Italian word nebbia, which means fog. And the reason is none other than the fact that during the harvest, which generally takes place in October, a thick fog enters the Langhe region, where the Nebbiolo vineyards are located. It is a red grape associated above all with the northern Italian region of Piedmont.
Nebbiolo is what gives identity to Mexican wines, since its arrival more than 30 years ago.
The wine route offers you a wide variety of Nebbiolo wines, whether single-varietal or in blend. However, there is one winery in particular, ATP Vinos y Familia, a family project that began 16 years ago by winemaker Alejandro Torres Peña and Nena de Torres (†). It produces two of the best 100% Nebbiolo wines on the route: Jaque Mate 2018 and Nena Torres 2018.
